Copperbelt University (CBU) is a public university in Kitwe, Zambia.
The history of Copperbelt University (CBU) can be traced back to the early 1980s, when the Zambian government decided to establish a new university on the Copperbelt, the country's industrial heartland. The aim was to provide more opportunities for higher education for the people of the Copperbelt and to support the region's economic development.

In 1987, the government passed an Act of Parliament to establish the Copperbelt University. The new university incorporated UNZA-Ndola and two other institutions: the Zambia Institute of Technology (ZIT) and the Copperbelt Technical College (CTC).
