Universidad ORT Uruguay is Uruguay's largest private university.
The history of ORT Uruguay University can be traced back to 1942, when it was founded as a technical school to help the Jewish community emigrating during World War II to assimilate by teaching them the trades of the community's economy.
In 1950, ORT Uruguay expanded its educational offering into technological areas, and in 1970, it created computer centers in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Uruguay.
In 1980, ORT Uruguay began to develop academic cooperation activities with other countries. In 1996, ORT Uruguay was the first institution to request authorization to function as a private university, and it was granted in September of the same year.
Over the years, ORT Uruguay University has grown and expanded its academic offerings. Today, it is a leading private university in Uruguay, with a strong focus on innovation and entrepreneurship.
