The Catholic University of Uruguay (Universidad Católica del Uruguay, UCU) is a private, Catholic university located in Montevideo, Uruguay.

The history of the Catholic University of Uruguay (UCU) dates back to 1882, when the Archbishop of Montevideo, Monseigneur Mariano Soler, founded the Institute of Philosophy, Science and Letters. The institute was closed in 1951 due to financial difficulties, but it was reopened in 1985 and entrusted to the Society of Jesus. In 1986, the institute was granted university status and became the Catholic University of Uruguay.

The UCU was the only private university in Uruguay for 11 years until 1996. During this time, the university played a leading role in the development of private higher education in the country. The UCU also played an important role in the democratization of Uruguay, which began in the late 1970s.

The UCU is committed to academic excellence, ideological pluralism, ecumenism, and inter-religious dialogue. The university's mission is to "form integral professionals, committed to the common good and the search for truth, in the light of the Christian faith."
