University of Aberdeen

University of Aberdeen is a public research university located in Aberdeen, Scotland, and is recognized as one of the four ancient universities of Scotland. Established with the foundational purpose of being "open to all and dedicated to the pursuit of truth in the service of others," it is the fifth-oldest university in the English-speaking world. The institution is known for its dual-campus structure, with its historic heart in Old Aberdeen and its modern medical facilities at Foresterhill, which together form one of Europe’s largest health campuses.

The university's history began in 1495 when William Elphinstone, Bishop of Aberdeen, founded King’s College to serve the north-east of Scotland. A second institution, Marischal College, was established in 1593 as a Protestant alternative, and for centuries the two operated as separate, competing universities. They finally merged in 1860 to form the modern University of Aberdeen. Throughout its long history, the university played a significant role in the Scottish Enlightenment and has been associated with five Nobel Prize winners, reflecting a deep-seated tradition of academic and scientific pioneering.
