Sumy State University
Sumy State University (SumDU) is a higher educational institution in Sumy, Ukraine. It was founded in 1948 and is one of the leading universities in the country.
The history of Sumy State University (SumDU) dates back to 1948, when the Sumy Technical College of Mechanics and Engineering was founded. The college was established to train engineers and technicians for the Sumy Frunze Machine-Building Plant.
In 1958, the college was reorganized into the Sumy General Technical Faculty of the Ukrainian Distant Polytechnic Institute (UDPI). In 1960, the faculty was renamed the Sumy Branch of the Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute (KPI).
In 1990, the Sumy Branch of KPI was granted the status of an independent university and was renamed the Sumy Institute of Physics and Technology. In 1993, the institute was renamed Sumy State University.
