Kharkiv National University (also known as Karazin University) is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Ukraine.
Kharkiv National University (also known as Karazin University) was founded in 1804 through the efforts of Vasily Karazin, a prominent educator and philanthropist. It is one of the oldest universities in Eastern Europe, and the second oldest in modern-day Ukraine.
The university was founded during the reign of Tsar Alexander I of Russia, who was a supporter of education and reform. Karazin's vision was to create a university that would be open to students from all social classes, and that would offer a comprehensive education in the arts, sciences, and humanities.
The university opened its doors to students in 1805, and quickly became a leading center of education and scholarship in the Russian Empire. In the 19th century, many of the most prominent scientists and scholars in Russia taught and conducted research at the university.
The university continued to grow and develop throughout the 20th century. During the Soviet era, it was one of the most prestigious universities in the Soviet Union. After the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, the university became a leading university in independent Ukraine.
Kharkiv National University is ranked among the top universities in Ukraine and Eastern Europe. It is also the only university in Ukraine that has trained and employed three Nobel Prize winners.
