Suranaree University of Technology

Suranaree University of Technology is a public university in Nakhon Ratchasima Province, Thailand.

The history of Suranaree University of Technology (SUT) can be traced back to the Fifth National Economic and Social Development Plan of Thailand, which was implemented in 1987. One of the goals of the plan was to increase the number of opportunities for higher education in regional and rural areas.

In 1989, the Thai government established a committee to study the feasibility of establishing a new university in Nakhon Ratchasima Province. The committee's report recommended that the new university should focus on science and technology, and that it should be named after Thao Suranari, a local heroine who defended Nakhon Ratchasima from a Lao invasion in 1827.

The Suranaree University of Technology Act was passed in 1990, and the university was officially established on July 27 of that year. SUT began construction of its campus in Nakhon Ratchasima in 1991, and the first students were admitted in 1993.

SUT is known for its strong research focus. Its faculty members have published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, and the university has received numerous research grants from both Thai and international funding agencies. SUT is also home to several research centers and institutes, including the Nanotechnology Research Center, the Center of Excellence on Petrochemicals and Materials Technology, and the Institute of Agricultural Technology.
