Mahidol University

Mahidol University is a highly-regarded public research university in Thailand .

Mahidol University boasts a rich history deeply intertwined with the modernization of Thailand's healthcare system. Its roots trace back to 1888 with the establishment of Siriraj Hospital by King Chulalongkorn (Rama V). This hospital's medical school, granting the country's first medical degree in 1893, holds the distinction of being Thailand's oldest institution of higher learning.

The university itself took shape in 1943 as the University of Medical Science. Recognized as Thailand's fourth public university, it underwent a significant transformation in 1969. King Bhumibol Adulyadej renamed it Mahidol University in honor of his father, Prince Mahidol of Songkhla. Prince Mahidol is revered as the "Father of Modern Medicine and Public Health in Thailand" for his instrumental role in developing the nation's medical education system.  The university further expanded in 1971 with the acquisition of a vast suburban area known as Salaya, paving the way for its future growth and diversification.

Mahidol University offers a dynamic campus life that fosters intellectual growth and cultural exchange.  The Salaya campus, the university's main hub, is a bustling environment with modern facilities, libraries, and research centers. Students can choose from a variety of clubs and organizations catering to diverse interests, from academic pursuits to sports and cultural activities. The university also encourages international exchange, providing opportunities for students to connect with peers from around the world.

Beyond academics, the campus boasts a vibrant social scene.  Canteens offer a range of delicious Thai and international cuisines, while cafes and student lounges provide spaces for relaxation and interaction. The university also organizes various events throughout the year, including festivals, concerts, and sporting competitions, creating a lively and enriching campus experience.
