National Tsing Hua University

National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) is a public research university in Hsinchu City, Taiwan.

National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) was first established as the "Tsing Hua Imperial College" at Tsing Hua Garden in Beijing in 1911. The college was founded with the Boxer Indemnity Fund, which was paid to the Chinese government by the eight foreign powers that had been involved in the Boxer Rebellion of 1900.

The original purpose of Tsing Hua Imperial College was to prepare students to go on to study in the United States. The college had a strong focus on English language instruction and American culture. In 1912, the college was renamed "Tsing Hua College."

In 1925, Tsing Hua College was reorganized into a university. The university section offered undergraduate and graduate programs in a variety of disciplines, including science, engineering, humanities, and social sciences. In 1928, the university was renamed "National Tsing Hua University."

Following the outbreak of the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression in 1937, National Tsing Hua University merged with National Peking University and Nankai University to form Lin-shih-ta-hsueh (National Southwestern Associated University), which was relocated to Kunming, Yunnan Province, in 1938. The three universities resumed their separate operations after the war ended in 1945.

In 1949, after the Chinese Communist Revolution, National Tsing Hua University was relocated to Hsinchu, Taiwan. The university resumed operations on its new campus in Hsinchu in 1956.

NTHU continues to be a leader in higher education and research in Taiwan. The university is committed to providing its students with a world-class education and to conducting research that has a positive impact on society.
