Tishreen University

Tishreen University is a public university located in Latakia, Syria. It is the third-largest university in Syria, after the University of Damascus and Aleppo University.

The institution's story begins in the early 1970s, specifically in 1971, in the coastal city of Latakia.  At that time, it was established as a new center of higher learning, reflecting the growing need for education and development in the region.  Initially, it operated under the name "University of Latakia," serving as a vital hub for knowledge and academic pursuit. A pivotal moment in its history arrived in 1975.  This year marked a significant turning point, as the institution was renamed to commemorate a major national event – the October War, also known as the Tishreen War.  This renaming served as a tribute to the nation's resilience and a reminder of the historical significance of that period.  The name change symbolized not only a shift in identity but also a renewed commitment to national progress and development through education.

From its inception, the university has steadily grown and expanded.  Starting with a core of foundational faculties, it has broadened its academic offerings over the decades to encompass a wide spectrum of disciplines.  This expansion reflects the evolving needs of the region and the nation, providing opportunities for students to specialize in diverse fields ranging from medicine and engineering to the arts, sciences, and humanities. The institution has played a crucial role in shaping the intellectual and cultural landscape of Latakia and the surrounding areas. It has served as a training ground for generations of professionals, contributing significantly to various sectors of society.  Its alumni have gone on to make their mark in fields such as medicine, engineering, business, academia, and public service, both within Syria and internationally.
