In 1978, Sri Lanka yearned for greater access to higher education. Enter the Open University of Sri Lanka (OUSL), born from a promise of a "Free and Just Society." OUSL's unique mission? To democratize knowledge through Open and Distance Learning (ODL). It stood as the sole university in the nation solely dedicated to ODL, making education flexible and accessible for working adults, regardless of age, background, or location.
OUSL's journey began with a limited range of courses. But ambition bloomed quickly. Soon, its curriculum blossomed, offering diplomas, certificates, undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in diverse fields. OUSL's impact goes beyond curriculum. It championed English language development through its dedicated Postgraduate Institute of English, promoting global communication within Sri Lanka.
