Technical University of Catalonia, currently referred to as BarcelonaTech, is the largest engineering university in Catalonia, Spain.
The history of the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC) can be traced back to the 19th century, when the first engineering schools in Barcelona were founded. In 1851, the Industrial School of Barcelona (ETSEIB) was established, followed by the Higher School of Architecture of Barcelona (ETSAB) in 1871.
In the early 20th century, a number of other technical schools were established in Barcelona and other parts of Catalonia. In 1971, these schools were merged to form the Universitat Politècnica de Barcelona (UPB).
In 1986, the UPB was renamed the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC) to reflect its presence throughout Catalonia. The UPC has since expanded to include nine campuses located throughout the region.
The UPC has played a major role in the development of Catalonia and Spain. The university has produced many of the country's leading engineers, scientists, and architects. The UPC has also played a key role in the development of Catalonia's economy and industry.
