Yonsei University is a private research university in Seoul, South Korea. It is one of the most prestigious universities in the country. Yonsei University's history dates back to 1885, when it was founded as Korea's first modern hospital, Gwanghyewon. In 1915, the American Protestant missionary Horace Grant Underwood founded Chosun Christian College, which merged with Severance Medical College in 1957 to form Yonsei University.
Yonsei has played a significant role in Korea's modernization and development. During the Japanese colonial period (1910-1945), Yonsei was a bastion of Korean nationalism and resistance. After the Korean War, Yonsei helped to rebuild the country and promote democracy.

It is known for its strong academic programs in a wide range of disciplines, including business, engineering, medicine, and the arts.
