Cheongam College

Cheongam College began its journey in 1954 as Suncheon Nursing School, marking a significant milestone as the first vocational training institution for women in Jeollanam-do and the southeastern region of South Korea. 

It was initially focused on providing nursing education and became a vital part of the local community by preparing students for careers in healthcare. The institution gradually evolved, expanding its scope to include more comprehensive academic programs. In 1973, it was upgraded to Suncheon Professional Nursing School and further elevated to a college in 1979, gaining a reputation for quality education in nursing and allied health fields. In the following years, the institution saw significant transformations, particularly after 1983 when the founder changed to the Cheongam School Foundation, chaired by Dr. Gil-tae Gang. This shift was instrumental in the college's "new leap," leading to its relocation to its current site in Deokwol-dong in 1984. The establishment began to aim for a broader academic focus, and by 1993, it transitioned into a general college, admitting male students in 1995, which marked a significant moment in breaking down barriers to education. The introduction of new programs and partnerships expanded the institution's offerings, allowing it to better cater to the diverse educational needs of its student body.

The early 2000s saw Cheongam College make notable strides in both domestic and international partnerships. The college opened various campuses, such as the Yeosu City Hall Campus and the Gurye-Gun Office Campus, and played a critical role in supporting lifelong education initiatives. It was also selected for several Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology projects, focusing on enhancing its specialization programs. The establishment of a business incubator and various industry-academy cooperation agreements further contributed to the college’s growth, strengthening its ties with local and international businesses. 

By 2009, Cheongam College had made significant progress in shaping its identity and reputation as an innovative educational institution. With a focus on academic excellence, it was selected for various projects aimed at improving its educational capacity and enhancing its services to students. The opening of new facilities and the expansion of international collaborations played a crucial role in this transformation. As the institution continued to grow, it garnered national recognition, ranking among the top junior colleges in Korea and creating a strong foundation for its future endeavors.
