University of Maribor

The University of Maribor (UM) is Slovenia's second-largest university, established in 1975 in Maribor, Slovenia.

The history of the University of Maribor (UM) can be traced back to 1859, when the theological seminary was established in Maribor by the Maribor Bishop Anton Martin Slomšek. The seminary was the first institution of higher education in Maribor.

In the early 20th century, several other higher education institutions were established in Maribor, including a commercial school, a technical school, and a teacher training college. After World War II, these institutions were merged to form the Higher Educational Center of Maribor.

In 1975, the Higher Educational Center of Maribor was granted the status of a university, and the University of Maribor was officially established. At the time of its founding, UM had four faculties: the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, and the Faculty of Education.

UM is a young university with a rich history. It has played an important role in the development of Maribor and the region, and it continues to be a leading institution of higher education in Slovenia.
