Gheorghe Asachi Technical University of Iasi

Gheorghe Asachi Technical University of Iași (TUIASI) is a higher education institution in Iași, Romania.

The history of the Gheorghe Asachi Technical University of Iasi (TUIASI) dates back to 1813, when Gheorghe Asachi, one of the most influential people of his generation, founded the first school of land surveyors and civil engineers with instruction in Romanian language. This school can be considered the core of technical higher education in Moldova.

In 1860, the Princely Academy of Iași was founded, which included a faculty of engineering. In 1920, the Institute of Constructions was founded in Iași. In 1937, the two institutions were merged to form the Polytechnic Institute of Iași.

In 1963, the Polytechnic Institute of Iași was renamed the Technical University of Iași. In 1991, it was renamed the Gheorghe Asachi Technical University of Iași, in honor of the engineer and scientist Gheorghe Asachi, who was the founder of the Polytechnic School of Iași.
