Qatar University (QU) is a public research university located on the northern outskirts of Doha, Qatar. It is the only public university in the country.
The history of Qatar University (QU) dates back to 1973, when it was founded as the University of Qatar. The university was initially established with three colleges: the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Education, and the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies. In 1977, the College of Engineering was established. In the early years, QU was a small institution with only a few hundred students. However, the university grew rapidly in the 1980s and 1990s, as Qatar experienced a period of rapid economic development. During this time, QU expanded its academic offerings and established new colleges, including the College of Business and Economics, the College of Law, and the College of Medicine.
In the early 2000s, QU embarked on a major reform process aimed at modernizing its curriculum and structure. The university also established a number of new research centers and institutes. In 2004, the College of Arts and Sciences was merged with the College of Sciences to form the new College of Arts and Sciences. Today, QU is a leading university in the Middle East and North Africa region. Qatar University has played a key role in the development of Qatar. The university has produced thousands of graduates who have gone on to hold senior positions in government, business, and academia. QU is also a major research center, contributing to Qatar's knowledge economy.
