University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus (UPRRP) is a public university located in the city of San Juan, Puerto Rico. It is the largest campus in the University of Puerto Rico system and the first public university in the history of Puerto Rico.

The history of the Universidad de Puerto Rico Río Piedras (UPRRP) dates back to 1900, when the Escuela Normal Industrial (Normal Industrial School) was established in Fajardo, Puerto Rico. The school was dedicated to training teachers and educators, and it had an initial enrollment of 20 students and 5 professors.

In 1902, the Escuela Normal Insular was moved to a finca called "La Convalecencia" in Río Piedras. The move was made due to the proximity of Río Piedras to the capital city of San Juan, as well as the accessibility of the area. On March 12, 1903, the Ley de 12 de marzo de 1903 (Law of March 12, 1903) was passed, creating the Universidad de Puerto Rico. The university began operating in a finca on the outskirts of Río Piedras, with an enrollment of 273 students. The Escuela Normal Industrial was incorporated into the new university.

In 1907, the first class of baccalaureate students graduated from the university. In 1908, the Morrill-Nelson Act was extended to Puerto Rico, making the university a "Land Grant College." Land Grant Colleges are granted federal land to establish schools of agriculture, science, and engineering. In 1910, the College of Liberal Arts was established. In 1913, the Departments of Pharmacy and Law were established.

Over the years, the UPRRP has continued to grow and expand. Today, it is the largest campus in the University of Puerto Rico system, and it offers a wide range of academic programs. The university is also a major center for research and cultural activity. The UPRRP has played an important role in the history of Puerto Rico. It has educated many of the island's leaders, and it has helped to shape Puerto Rican culture and society.
