Poznań University of Life Sciences (PULS), also known as the August Cieszkowski University of Life Sciences in Poznań, is a public university in Poznań, Poland.
The history of the Poznań University of Life Sciences (PULS) dates back to the 1870s, when August Cieszkowski, an outstanding philosopher, a patron of agricultural science and education, established a school of agriculture in Żabikowo near Poznań. In 1919, after Poland regained its independence following the First World War, the University of Poznań was established, and the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry was created, based partly on the traditions and scientific output of the school in Żabikowo.
In 1951, the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry was separated from the University of Poznań and became an independent institution, called the Higher School of Agriculture in Poznań. In 1996, the school was renamed the Poznań University of Life Sciences, in honor of August Cieszkowski.
