Cracow University of Technology

Cracow University of Technology is a public technical university located in Kraków, Poland.

The history of Cracow University of Technology (CUT) can be traced back to 1834, when the Institute of Technology was established in Kraków. The Institute offered courses in engineering, arts, and polygraphy. It functioned in politically turbulent times, but it managed to survive for over a hundred years, preparing well-qualified technicians for professional work.

After Poland regained its independence in 1918, new possibilities for engineering education opened up in Kraków. In 1922, the Faculty of Engineering was established at the Jagiellonian University. However, the Faculty was soon closed due to financial difficulties.

In 1937, the idea of establishing a separate university of technology in Kraków was revived. However, World War II intervened and the plan was put on hold.

After the war, the idea of establishing a university of technology in Kraków was again pursued. In 1945, the Minister of Education agreed to establish three autonomous Politechnic Faculties within the Academy of Mining. These faculties were the Faculty of Architecture, the Faculty of Civil Engineering, and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.

In 1947, the Politechnic Faculties were moved to their current campus in the historic buildings at Warszawska Street. In 1954, the Politechnic Faculties gained full independence and were renamed the Cracow University of Technology.

Over the years, CUT has grown and developed into one of the leading technical universities in Poland and Central Europe.
