St. Paul University Manila is a private, Catholic coeducational basic and higher education institution established and run by the Congregation of the Sisters of Saint Paul of Chartres in Manila, Philippines.
The university's history dates back to 1912. In that year, the Congregation of the Sisters of Saint Paul of Chartres established a small school in Manila, Philippines. The school was initially intended to serve the needs of the French community in the city, but it soon began to attract students from all walks of life. In 1921, the school was granted university status by the Philippine government. The university continued to grow and expand over the next few decades, and it soon became one of the leading educational institutions in the country.
The university played a significant role in the Philippine Revolution. Many of the university's students and faculty members were involved in the fight for independence. The university also provided a safe haven for revolutionaries and their families. After the Philippines gained independence in 1946, the university continued to thrive. It expanded its academic offerings and increased its enrollment. The university also became more involved in community service and social development.
In the 1970s, the university began to face financial difficulties. These difficulties were exacerbated by the political turmoil that gripped the Philippines during this period. In 1986, the university was forced to close its doors. However, the university was not destined to remain closed. In 1991, it was reopened with the help of the Philippine government and the Congregation of the Sisters of Saint Paul of Chartres. The university has since experienced a resurgence, and it is once again one of the leading educational institutions in the Philippines.
