Mindanao State University

Mindanao State University is a regional state, coeducational, research higher education institution in the city of Marawi, Philippines.

The history of Mindanao State University (MSU) can be traced back to the passage of Republic Act 1387 in 1961, which established the Mindanao State University as a regional state university in Marawi City, Lanao del Sur. The law was authored by Senator Domocao Alonto, who envisioned MSU as a "social laboratory for national integration."

The first batch of MSU students enrolled in June 1962. The university initially offered undergraduate programs in the arts and sciences, education, and engineering.

MSU has played a significant role in the development of Mindanao. The university has produced thousands of graduates who have gone on to become leaders in government, business, and academia. MSU has also been a major research center, with a number of ongoing projects in various fields.

In the early 1970s, MSU experienced a period of turmoil due to the rise of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF). The university was closed for several years, but it reopened in 1976.

In the 1980s and 1990s, MSU continued to grow and develop. The university established new campuses in Iligan City, General Santos City, Tawi-Tawi, and Buug. MSU also expanded its research and extension programs.

In 2001, MSU was granted autonomy by the Philippine government. This autonomy gave the university more flexibility to manage its own affairs and to develop programs that are responsive to the needs of the region.

Today, MSU is one of the leading universities in the Philippines. It is a comprehensive university that offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs in a variety of fields. MSU is also a major research center and a leading provider of extension services.

MSU is committed to providing its students with a quality education and preparing them for success in their chosen fields. The university is also committed to serving the people of Mindanao and contributing to the development of the region.
