De La Salle University

De La Salle University is a private university located in the Philippines.

The history of De La Salle University (DLSU) can be traced back to 1911, when it was founded as De La Salle College by the Christian Brothers at the request of Manila Archbishop Jeremiah James Harty. The college was initially located at Nozaleda Street, Paco, Manila, but later moved to its current location in Taft Avenue, Manila, in 1923.

DLSU started as an exclusive all-boys elementary and high school. It opened its college department in 1924, offering courses in liberal arts, business, and engineering. The college was granted university status in 1975.

DLSU is the oldest constituent of De La Salle Philippines (DLSP), a network of 16 Lasallian educational institutions established in 2006 replacing the De La Salle University System.

DLSU has played a significant role in the history of the Philippines. It was a center of student activism during the Marcos dictatorship. The university also played a key role in the EDSA Revolution of 1986, which overthrew the Marcos regime.

DLSU is now one of the leading universities in the Philippines. It is known for its academic excellence, its strong Lasallian identity, and its commitment to social justice.
