Aquinas University of Legazpi

Aquinas University of Legazpi was a private, Catholic basic and higher education institution located in Legazpi City, Albay, Philippines.

The institution traces its origins back to 1962, founded by Dr. Jose C. Angeles, a distinguished Filipino educator and businessman. Dr. Angeles envisioned creating a university that would provide quality education accessible to students from diverse backgrounds. Initially established as a small college with a limited range of programs, the institution was granted university status by the Philippine government in 1966. Throughout the 1970s, it expanded its academic offerings and began attracting a larger student population. By the 1980s, it had continued its growth, establishing a solid reputation for academic excellence. 

A significant milestone occurred in 1995 when the institution was awarded autonomous status by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), acknowledging its dedication to quality education and institutional advancement. Additionally, it has received accreditation from the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU) for various programs, ensuring high academic standards. The campus and facilities have also been expanded to accommodate a growing student body and diverse academic programs. The institution has actively engaged in community development, contributing to local welfare through various initiatives. It has also emphasized research and development, addressing societal challenges and advancing knowledge. The success of its alumni across various fields has further enhanced the institution's reputation and legacy.

The motto "Vita Veritatis Et Amoris Ex Gratitudine," which translates to "A Life of Truth and of Love Out of Gratitude," encapsulates the core values and philosophy of Aquinas University of Legazpi. It emphasizes living a life guided by truth and love, highlighting the importance of intellectual honesty, compassion, and empathy.
