University of Piura

University of Piura (UDEP) is a private university in Peru.

The history of the University of Piura (UDEP) can be traced back to 1964, when Josemaría Escrivá, founder of Opus Dei, decided to create a new university in Peru. Construction of the Piura Campus started in the late 1960s, with much of its infrastructure financed by international support from the Italian, Spanish, German and Canadian governments.

UDEP officially began operating in 1969 with nine teachers and 97 students. Its initial offerings were limited to a few undergraduate programs in business administration, economics, and accounting. However, UDEP quickly expanded its academic offerings and by the early 1980s, it was offering a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs in a variety of fields.

In the 1990s, UDEP began to focus on research and established several research centers. UDEP also began to expand its international reach and signed exchange agreements with universities around the world.

In 2006, UDEP opened a second campus in the Miraflores District of Lima. The Lima campus offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs in business administration, economics, law, and engineering.

UDEP is a relatively young university, but it has made a significant impact on Peruvian higher education in a short period of time. UDEP is committed to providing its students with a high-quality education and to preparing them to be leaders in their fields.
