Cayetano Heredia Peruvian University is a private nonprofit university located in Lima, Peru.
The history of Cayetano Heredia Peruvian University (Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia, UPCH) is closely linked to the development of medicine and scientific research in Peru.
UPCH was founded in 1961 by a group of professors and students from the medical school of the four-century-old National University of San Marcos in Lima. The founders were dissatisfied with the state of medical education in Peru at the time and wanted to create a new university that would offer a more rigorous and modern curriculum.
UPCH's first classes began in April 1962, in the old headquarters of the Colegio Sagrados Corazones Belén del Jirón de la Unión. In 1967, the Cayetano Heredia National Hospital was opened, and in 1968, the university moved to its new headquarters in San Martín de Porres.
From the beginning, UPCH has been committed to academic excellence and scientific research. The university's faculty and students have made significant contributions to the fields of medicine, public health, and life sciences.
In 2007, UPCH became the first university in Peru to be internationally accredited by the International Quality Institute (IAC) of the Interuniversity Development Center (CINDA).
