Al-Quds University

Al-Quds University (AQU) is a Palestinian university with its main campus in Abu Dis and additional campuses in al-Bireh, Hebron and Jerusalem. It is the first and only Palestinian university in Jerusalem.

The history of Al-Quds University can be traced back to 1978, when the College of Daawa and Religious Principles was founded in Beit-Hanina. This was followed by the establishment of the Colleges of Medical Professions and Science and Technology in Al-Bireh and Abu Dis respectively, in 1979.

In 1984, these three colleges merged to form the University of Jerusalem. However, the Israeli government refused to recognize the university, and it was forced to operate underground.

In 1995, the University of Jerusalem was officially renamed Al-Quds University. The university's main campus was built in Abu Dis, just outside of Jerusalem. However, the university also has campuses in al-Bireh, Hebron, and Jerusalem.

Al-Quds University has faced many challenges throughout its history. The Israeli government has repeatedly tried to shut down the university, and it has arrested and harassed students and faculty. However, Al-Quds University has persevered, and it has become a leading institution of higher education in the Palestinian territories.

Al-Quds University is a symbol of Palestinian resilience and determination. It is a beacon of hope for the Palestinian people, and it plays an important role in the development of Palestinian society.

Al-Quds University is ranked as the #1 top university in Palestine during 2025. This is the same rank as last year.
