Tai Solarin University of Education is a state university of education in Nigeria.
The university's genesis was in 1978 as the Ogun State College of Education. Originally situated in Igbeba, Ijebu-Ode, its primary objective was to train teachers for primary and secondary schools throughout Ogun State and Nigeria. The College quite earned a reputation for training a good number of competent and committed teachers, who impacted on the educational development of the State. It was renamed in 1994 as Tai Solarin College of Education as a way to honour the the distinguished Nigerian educationist, Tai Solarin, who was also a human rights activist. The new name encapsulated the vision of the College as it strived for excellence in pedagogy and human development. As demands for specialist teacher training, and teacher education improved in scope, the Ogun State government formally upgraded Tai Solarin College of Education to Tai Solarin University of Education in 2005. This transition marked an important milestone because it was the first university of education in Nigeria that was set up primarily to train educators and to provide teacher education. This transition fittingly illustrated the will of the Ogun State government to meet the educational needs of the state and the nation.
With headquarters in Ijagun, Ogun State, the university offers a large number of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in education. The programs include teacher education, educational administration, educational technology, and counseling to offer all-round training of teachers.
