Tai Solarin University of Education

Tai Solarin University of Education is a state university of education in Nigeria.

The university's history began in 1978 when it was established as the Ogun State College of Education. Initially located in Igbeba, Ijebu-Ode, the college's primary mission was to train teachers for primary and secondary schools across Ogun State and Nigeria. Over time, it gained a reputation for producing competent and dedicated educators who significantly contributed to the state's education system. In 1994, the college was renamed to honor the renowned Nigerian educationist and human rights activist, Tai Solarin, reflecting its commitment to excellence in teaching and human development. Recognizing the growing need for specialized teacher training and higher education in the field, the Ogun State Government transformed the Tai Solarin College of Education into a full-fledged university in 2005. This marked a significant milestone as it became the first university of education in Nigeria, dedicated solely to teacher training and education.
