Rhema University, Aba is a private Christian university located in Aba, Abia State, Nigeria.
This institution of higher learning has its roots in the vision of a man concerned about the declining standards of education in Nigeria. Back in 1987, the leader of a religious organization, driven by this concern, initiated efforts to establish schools that would provide quality education infused with Christian values. This led to the establishment of nursery, primary, and secondary schools in various locations, including some outside of Nigeria. These schools, run on Christian principles, produced students who excelled academically and demonstrated strong moral character.
The success of these schools and the increasing demand for admissions highlighted the need for more educational opportunities. Recognizing this, the leadership of the religious organization decided to venture into tertiary education. They envisioned a university that would produce God-fearing leaders and provide access to university education in Nigeria, where admission slots were highly competitive. In 2004, a dedicated committee was formed to plan and implement this ambitious project. Their efforts culminated in 2009 when the institution received its license to operate as a private university in Nigeria. The first cohort of students was admitted that year, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the pursuit of educational excellence.
The university is currently situated on a temporary campus while plans are underway to develop a permanent site. It offers a range of undergraduate programs across different disciplines, as well as postgraduate programs and a school for basic studies. The institution is committed to providing a transformative education that not only imparts knowledge but also cultivates strong moral values. It aims to equip students with the skills and character necessary to succeed in their chosen fields and contribute meaningfully to society.
