Redeemer's University, Nigeria, is a private Christian university located in Ede, Osun State, Nigeria.
The university was founded by the Redeemed Christian Church of God in 2005, with the aim of providing world-class education based on Christian values. The Federal Government of Nigeria granted an operating license to the university on January 7, 2005, officially recognizing its status as a higher learning institution. This marked the beginning of a new chapter in the educational landscape of Nigeria, as the university sought to blend academic excellence with moral and spiritual development. The church’s vision was to create a place of learning that would shape the future of its students while upholding Christian principles. To realize its dream, the Redeemed Christian Church of God, the university's founders, acquired a large expanse of land in Ede, Osun State. In 1997, the church secured the Certificate of Statutory Right of Occupancy for the land, which spans approximately 812 hectares (2,010 acres). This vast area provided the ideal location for the university’s eventual permanent campus, allowing the institution to expand and develop facilities that would meet the needs of a growing student population. The land acquisition was a crucial step in realizing the long-term vision of the university and ensuring its ability to accommodate future growth.
The university officially took off at a temporary site in the Redemption Camp on October 11, 2005, with an initial cohort of 478 students admitted into three colleges. This marked the beginning of the university’s academic journey, as the first group of students embarked on their educational pursuits. The university's first batch of students was welcomed into an environment designed to foster both academic rigor and spiritual growth. The early years of the university were foundational in shaping its academic culture and reputation. On February 1, 2006, 473 students matriculated into the university's colleges to pursue bachelor's degrees in various programs. This was a key moment in the university’s development, as it officially began its academic operations, offering undergraduate education in a wide range of disciplines. The matriculation ceremony was a testament to the university’s commitment to providing quality education while adhering to its Christian ethos. As the years passed, the university continued to grow, expanding its academic offerings and strengthening its position as a reputable institution in Nigeria.
