The university was founded in 1999 as the first private Catholic university in Nigeria, marking a significant step in expanding higher education with a focus on Catholic values. It was established in Okija, Anambra State, under the leadership of Father Edeh, who had previously founded Our Saviour Institute of Science and Technology in Enugu.
