Federal Polytechnic Oko

Federal Polytechnic, Oko is an educational institution located in Oko, Orumba North Local Government Area, Anambra State, Nigeria.

The college's history began in 1979 when it was established as the College of Arts and Science, the first step in an initiative to provide quality education to meet the needs of students pursuing the General Certificate of Education (GCE) examinations at ordinary and advanced levels. The institution was originally a preparatory institution for college-level work. The college offered primary-level courses in Arts and Sciences, emulating the academic rigor of true higher education institutions and demonstrating a commitment to student learning. Subsequently, the college developed as a critical institution for students wishing to upgrade their educational qualifications. In 1980 the Institution was upgraded to College of Arts, Science, and Technology, a significant mile stone. This upgrade opened new prospects and attracted a greater number of youths seeking the opportunity of post-secondary education, including new technical offerings responsive to the needs of a developing industrializing nation. This upgrade changed the college's status personally and institutionalized the process of moving from a post-secondary educational organization to becoming a higher educational institution, responsible for supporting the training of a workforce in the region.

The organization underwent significant changes and evolution, and by 1985 it was formally designated Anambra State Polytechnic, Oko. This was an important time in the school’s history and it solidified its place in the educational landscape of Anambra State. The polytechnic designation gave the institution the ability to offer programs more specialized in technical areas to meet local needs. This also furthered enrollment and expansion of physical facilities to enable higher education opportunities for students in Anambra State. Then, in 1993, it secured federal polytechnic status from the Federal Government and thus became into Federal Polytechnic, Oko. The change in status meant things will inevitably change and it mean that the institution had more resources and a stronger mandate to meet demand for educational resources across the country. The federal designation allowed the polytechnic to improve its facilities, create new programs, and establish a more complete and accountable academic and programmatic framework. The change to federal status also represents a reasonable step-up in the system of education giving students even more opportunity for success both within their academic program and as career professionals.
