Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University is a public university located in Uli, Anambra State, Nigeria.
The university was established in 2000 by the Anambra State Government and originally named Anambra State University. It began with two campuses: Uli, located on the former site of the Ekwenugo Okeke Polytechnic, and Igbariam, previously home to the College of Agriculture. These campuses provided the foundation for the university's mission to deliver quality education across various fields. Over the years, the institution has grown into a key driver of academic and cultural development in the region. In 2006, the university underwent a significant restructuring as it was renamed Anambra State University. This change aligned with recommendations from a 2004 visitation report, highlighting the need for modernization and a more unified identity. The Alor Campus was selected as the administrative headquarters due to its strategic location, facilitating efficient management. This restructuring laid the groundwork for further growth and innovation.
A pivotal moment in the university’s history occurred in 2010 with the establishment of the College of Medicine and Teaching Hospital in Awka. The addition of this third campus marked a significant expansion in its academic scope and capacity. This development enhanced the university’s ability to provide specialized education and address critical healthcare challenges in the region. It also cemented the university’s role as a hub for professional and technical expertise. In 2014, the university was renamed to honor Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, a notable political leader and cultural icon. This name change symbolized the institution’s dedication to preserving and celebrating its historical and cultural heritage. It also reflected a commitment to inspiring future generations by connecting academic excellence with a deep respect for local traditions. The university continues to build on this legacy, fostering innovation while honoring its roots.
