Tribhuvan University

Tribhuvan University, the oldest and largest university in Nepal, was established on June 25, 1959 (12 Ashar 2016 BS) in Kirtipur, Kathmandu. It was named after the late King Tribhuvan.

The idea of establishing a national university in Nepal was first conceived in the early 1950s, after the country gained independence from India in 1947. The government realized that the country needed a well-educated workforce to drive its development.

In 1955, a committee was appointed to study the feasibility of establishing a university in Nepal. The committee submitted its report in 1957, and the government approved the establishment of Tribhuvan University in 1959.

The university began its operations with two constituent colleges: Tri-Chandra College and Mahendra Morang College. In its early years, the university offered only undergraduate programs. However, it gradually expanded its offerings to include postgraduate and doctoral programs.

Tribhuvan University has played a significant role in the development of Nepal. It has produced a large number of qualified graduates who have contributed to the country's social, economic, and political development.
