Agriculture and Forestry University (AFU) is a public agricultural university in Nepal.
In 2010, a landmark moment arrived – the birth of AFU, Nepal's first dedicated agricultural university. This strategic union merged two prominent institutions: the Rampur Campus, Institute of Agriculture and Animal Science (IAAS), and the Forestry Campus, Hetauda, of Tribhuvan University. This strategic move aimed to create a powerhouse for agricultural and forestry education, research, and extension services, catering to the nation's burgeoning needs in these crucial sectors.
From the outset, the university focused on offering high-quality academic programs across various disciplines, including agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and allied sciences. The initial B.Sc. in Agriculture program, spanning four years, commenced at both the Rampur and Purunchaur campuses, laying the foundation for future academic expansion.
AFU's contributions to Nepal's agricultural and forestry development are remarkable. The university has produced skilled graduates who are actively involved in research, extension services, policy formulation, and private sector endeavors. AFU's research initiatives have also yielded significant advancements in areas like crop improvement, resource management, and climate-resilient agriculture. The university's commitment to excellence has garnered national and international recognition, positioning AFU as a leading institution in Nepal's agricultural and forestry sector.
AFU continues to evolve, embracing new technologies and adapting its programs to address emerging challenges in the agricultural and forestry landscapes. With its unwavering dedication to education, research, and outreach, AFU promises to play a pivotal role in shaping a sustainable and prosperous future for Nepal's agricultural and forestry sectors.
