Khovd University

Khovd University (KhU) is a public higher education institution located in the large town of Khovd in western Mongolia.

Khovd University (KhU) was established in 1979 as a branch of the National University of Mongolia. It was originally known as the Khovd Pedagogical Institute and offered courses in education, foreign languages, and social sciences. In 1990, the institute was renamed the Khovd State Pedagogical Institute and began to offer courses in other disciplines, such as business, law, and engineering.

In 2004, the Khovd State Pedagogical Institute became an independent university, known as Khovd University. This allowed the university to develop its own academic programs and to focus on the specific needs of the western Mongolian region.
