Vilnius Gediminas Technical University

Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU) is a public university in Vilnius, Lithuania. It is the largest and oldest technical university in Lithuania, with a history dating back to 1956, when the Vilnius Evening Division of the Kaunas Polytechnic Institute (now Kaunas University of Technology) was established. The division was reorganized into the KPI Vilnius Evening Faculty in 1960.

In 1969, the KPI Vilnius Branch was renamed Vilnius Civil Engineering Institute (VISI), as an independent institute providing higher technical education. In 1990, VISI was renamed Vilnius Technical University (VTU).

On 22 August 1996, the Lithuanian Government awarded the name of Gediminas, a 14th-century Grand Duke of Lithuania, to VTU, and the university became known as Vilnius Gediminas Technical University.

VGTU is a member of the European University Association and the Coimbra Group. It is also a partner of many international universities and organizations.
