Kyrgyz State Medical Academy

The Kyrgyz State Medical Academy (KSMA), officially known as the Kyrgyz State Medical Academy named after I.K. Akhunbaev, is a medical school in Kyrgyzstan, located in Bishkek.

The history of the Kyrgyz State Medical Academy (KSMA) dates back to 1939, when it was founded as the Kyrgyz State Medical Institute in the city of Frunze (now Bishkek) in the Kyrgyz SSR. The establishment of the institute was contributed to by the First Moscow Medical Institute, high medical schools of Saint-Petersburg, Almaty, Tashkent and other medical institutions. During the Second World War, the institute played an important role in training medical personnel for the Red Army.

After the war, the institute continued to grow and develop. In 1996, it was reorganized into the Kyrgyz State Medical Academy. In 2008, it was named after I.K. Akhunbaev, a prominent Kyrgyz surgeon and academic.

Today, KSMA is one of the leading medical universities in Kyrgyzstan and Central Asia. It offers a wide range of medical programs at undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate levels. KSMA has a strong focus on international cooperation and has partnerships with medical schools and universities all over the world.
