Strathmore University

Strathmore University is a private, chartered university in Nairobi, Kenya.

Strathmore University's history dates back to 1961, when it was founded as Strathmore College, a sixth form college offering science and arts subjects. The college was the first in pre-independence Kenya to accommodate all races, religions, and social standing. It was inspired and encouraged by Saint Josemaría Escrivá, the founder of Opus Dei.

In January 1993, Strathmore College merged with Kianda College and moved to Ole Sangale Road, Madaraka Estate. In August 2002, the Commission of Higher Education awarded Strathmore a Letter of Interim Authority to operate as a university with a Faculty of Commerce and a Faculty of Information Technology.

Strathmore University was granted a charter in 2002, making it a fully fledged university. The university has since grown rapidly and now offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs in a variety of disciplines.
