Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) is a public university in Kenya located in Kakamega town, Western Kenya.
Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) was founded in 1972 as Western College of Arts and Applied Sciences (WECO). It was established through the Harambee spirit, a self-help initiative that was popular in Kenya at the time. WECO was a college of Arts and Applied Sciences that awarded certificates and diplomas in technical courses.
In 2002, WECO became a constituent college of Moi University and changed its name to Western University College of Science and Technology (WUCST). In 2007, WUCST was elevated to full university status by President Mwai Kibaki and renamed Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, after the Kenyan politician and freedom fighter.
MMUST has played an important role in the development of the Western Kenya region. It has provided training to thousands of skilled workers and professionals who have gone on to contribute to the region's economy. MMUST has also played a leading role in the development of new technologies and industries in the region.
Today, MMUST is one of the leading universities in Kenya. It is known for its high-quality education, its strong focus on research and innovation, and its commitment to serving the community.
