Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) is a public university in Kenya.
The history of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) can be traced back to 1977, when plans for the establishment of a middle-level college of agriculture and technology began. In early 1978, the Kenyan president, Jomo Kenyatta, donated 200 hectares of farmland for the establishment of the college. The first group of students were admitted on 4 May 1981, and the new president Daniel Arap Moi formally opened the college on 17 March 1982.
The college was initially known as Jomo Kenyatta College of Agriculture and Technology (JKCAT), and it offered diploma courses in agricultural engineering, food technology, and horticulture. In 1984, the college began offering degree programs in agricultural engineering and food science. In 1986, the college expanded its offerings to include degree programs in engineering, business, and science.
In 1994, JKCAT was elevated to university status and renamed Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. The university has since grown to become one of the leading universities in Kenya and East Africa.
