In 1934, the institute was renamed the Kazakh Agricultural Institute, and its curriculum was expanded to include agronomy, plant protection, and agricultural engineering. The institute quickly became a leading center for agricultural education and research in Kazakhstan.

During World War II, the institute played an important role in supporting the Soviet war effort. It trained specialists in agriculture and veterinary medicine who were essential to the production of food and the care of livestock.

In 1996, the Kazakh Agricultural Institute merged with the Almaty Zooveterinary Institute to form the Kazakh State Agrarian University (KazGAU). The merger created a leading university in agricultural education and research in Central Asia.

In 2014, KazGAU was renamed the Kazakh National Agrarian Research University (KazNARU). The new name reflected the university's commitment to research and innovation in agriculture.
