Bocconi University, established in Milan, Italy, is a private university.
The university was founded in 1902 by Ferdinando Bocconi, a wealthy businessman, in memory of his son Luigi, who died in the Battle of Adwa. It was the first institution of higher education in Italy to offer a degree in economics, which exemplified Ferdinando's dream of modernizing the Italian educational system to develop in line with a more changing world. The university began in Largo Notari (Piazza Statuto), but in 1941, the formal move to its current site near Parco Ravizza began. This move was the start of a new generation; the institution expanded its facilities and with it, a campus culture developed. The university has a long tradition of academic excellence and has been consistently ranked among the best universities in Italy and the world. Bocconi is recognized for its rigorous academic programs, which weave theoretical study with the practical application of a field of study such as economics or management. Its faculty is primarily imported from premier institutions worldwide, helping to further build a brand as a site of intellectual activity. For decades the institution has educated and developed future leaders in research, and has been considered a pioneer in educating for innovation.
Given its academic strength, the university is committed to equipping its students to successfully navigate the workplace and build fulfilling careers. As graduates, students will access extensive career services and a near-immediate worldwide alumni network of successful former students usually willing to share advice and network. In modern times, the university remains a symbol of progress and modernity with a broad array of undergraduate, postgraduate and executive programs. The university maintains and fosters relationships with global institutions — rewarding collaboration and mutual partnerships in the form of international student exchange programs and study tours of distant communities that enhance the student learning experience. The campus is continuing to evolve as state-of-the-art complex buildings, lecture spaces and facilities nurture, stimulate, and encourage ideas to grow and develop as learning experiences evolve. As the university executes its vision for the future, there remains an enduring commitment to the mission to advance knowledge, develop leadership, and address the complexities of the modern world.
