The University of Anbar is an Iraqi university in Ramadi, Al Anbar, Iraq.
In 1987, amidst the bustling city of Ramadi, emerged the humble beginnings of the University of Anbar. It started with just two colleges – education and girls' education – a seedling planted in the fertile ground of Iraqi academia. Over the next two decades, it steadily branched out, adding new subjects like science and humanities, until finally in 2011, it blossomed into a full-fledged university, bursting with 19 diverse colleges.
Yet, its journey wasn't without thorns. Nestled in the expansive Anbar province, the university found itself entangled in the region's tumultuous history. In 2014, it became a target of violence, witnessing a brutal attack that shook its core. Its grounds fell silent, classrooms emptied, and students scattered, carrying the weight of displacement. But the spirit of knowledge remained unyielding.
Seven months later, the city was liberated, and the university, though severely wounded, refused to stay down. It transformed its scarred campus into a military base, a testament to its resilience. Finally, in 2016, its doors swung open once more, welcoming back students eager to reclaim their education. The university had fought its way back to life, bearing the scars of its struggle but glowing with the determination to heal and grow.
