Tabriz University of Medical Sciences (TUOMS) is a public medical sciences university located in Tabriz, East Azerbaijan Province, Iran.
The history of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences (TUOMS) dates back to 1946, when it was established as the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Tabriz. It was the second medical school to be established in Iran, after the Faculty of Medicine of Tehran University.
The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Tabriz was established at the initiative of Jafar Pishevari, the Prime Minister of the autonomous Azerbaijan People's Government. The faculty started its work with 8 professors and a few students.
In 1947, the Faculty of Medicine became an independent university under the name of the University of Azarabadegan. The university was renamed Tabriz University of Medical Sciences in 1979 after the Islamic Revolution.
Over the years, TUOMS has grown to become one of the most prestigious medical universities in Iran. TUOMS is also a major provider of healthcare services in the region.
