Shiraz University

Shiraz University (Persian: دانشگاه شیراز Dāneshgāh-e-Shirāz, formerly known as Pahlavi University دانشگاه پهلوی Dāneshgāh-e Pahlavi) is a public university located in Shiraz, Fars, Iran.

Shiraz University traces its roots to 1946, when the High Institute of Health was established in Shiraz. The institute was initially a technical college that trained specialists in the medical sciences with a four-year program. In 1950, the institute was developed into a medical school.

In 1955, the High Institute of Health was merged with the Shiraz College of Agriculture and the Shiraz College of Arts and Sciences to form Pahlavi University in Shiraz. The university was named after Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the Shah of Iran at the time.

In 1979, after the Iranian Revolution, Pahlavi University in Shiraz was renamed Shiraz University. The university continued to grow and develop after the revolution. Today, it is one of the largest and most prestigious universities in Iran.
