Diponegoro University

Diponegoro University (UNDIP) is a public university in Indonesia located in Semarang, Central Java.

The history of Diponegoro University (UNDIP) can be traced back to the early 1950s, when people in Central Java, especially in Semarang, realized the need for a university to provide higher learning and teaching facilities. The goal was to support the government in handling and conducting all sectors of development, especially in the field of education.

In response to this need, Imam Bardjo and his colleagues formed an educational foundation, namely Yayasan Universitas Semarang (Foundation of Semarang University), on December 4, 1956. The foundation was a first step to establish a university in Semarang, namely Semarang University, that officially opened on January 9, 1957.

At the time of its founding, Semarang University had three faculties: the Faculty of Law and Public Knowledge, the Faculty of Economics, and the Faculty of Engineering. The Teaching & Education Faculty was established later in the same year.

In 1960, on the third anniversary of Semarang University, President Sukarno renamed the university Diponegoro University, after the Javanese Prince Diponegoro who led a guerrilla war against the Dutch colonial government in the early 19th century.

The university became a state university on October 15, 1960, and has since continued to develop and grow. In the 1960s and 1970s, UNDIP established several new faculties, including the Faculty of Medicine (1961), the Faculty of Animal Husbandry (1964), the Faculty of Literature (1965), the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (1965), and the Research Institute and Community Service Institute (1970).

UNDIP is committed to providing high-quality education and research, and to producing graduates who are qualified to contribute to the development of the nation and the world.
