Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati

The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT Guwahati) is a prestigious public technical university located in Guwahati, Assam, India.

IIT Guwahati's origin story is intertwined with the Assam Accord of 1985, signed between the All Assam Students Union and the Government of India. Nearly a decade later, in 1994, IIT Guwahati was officially established by an act of parliament. It welcomed its first batch of students in 1995, offering Bachelor of Technology degrees through the Joint Entrance Examination, the standard admission process for all IITs.

Starting with five departments – Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering – the institute has grown to encompass nine departments covering major engineering and science disciplines.
