All India Institute of Medical Sciences Bhopal

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Bhopal (AIIMS Bhopal) is a medical research public university and Institute of National Importance, located in the Saket Nagar suburb of Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India.

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Bhopal (AIIMS Bhopal) was established in 2012 under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna (PMSSY), a flagship scheme of the Government of India launched in 2006 to improve the availability and quality of healthcare services in the country.

The idea of setting up new AIIMS-like institutions in different parts of the country was first conceived by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 2003. The initial plan was to set up six new AIIMS, but this was later scaled up to nine. Bhopal was one of the six cities selected for the first phase of the project.

The foundation stone for AIIMS Bhopal was laid on May 19, 2009 by the then Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Ghulam Nabi Azad. The construction of the institute began in 2010 and was completed in 2012.

AIIMS Bhopal started its academic operations in September 2012 with the launch of its first academic department, community and family medicine (CFM). The institute formed its Institute Body (IB) in July 2013 and started post graduation courses in January 2017.

The institute has played an important role in providing high-quality healthcare to the people of Madhya Pradesh and the surrounding regions. AIIMS Bhopal has also trained some of the best doctors and medical professionals in the country.
