The University of Akureyri (Háskólinn á Akureyri) is a public university located in Akureyri, Iceland.

From humble beginnings, with just two faculties – Health Sciences and Industrial Management – and a mere 31 students housed in two rooms of the local sports arena, UNAK has blossomed into a renowned institution. Led by its first Rector, Haraldur Bessason, the university quickly expanded, offering more diverse fields and welcoming increasing numbers of eager learners.

Early on, UNAK embraced flexible learning options and nurtured a robust research culture, setting it apart from the pack. In 1995, it found its permanent home in the impressive Sólborg building, its modern facilities a testament to its growth and dynamism.
